Just got back from a hike on an old rail trail with the family and it's always fun to see what turns up. We found the usual stuff like spikes and a rail plate, but then I found a couple of channel iron pieces. I'm not exactly sure what they might have been used for. I wished I took one home or at least a photo to share here, but I was enjoying the moment too much! It got me wondering, what's the best or most interesting thing you've ever found on an old rail trail?

After 10 years in this industry I can say I haven't found anything, like literally. Sure, maybe come old coins and stuff like that, but I haven't found anything interesting. Maybe I should have my eyesight checked 
As for the pieces yo found, I'm guessing they're structural pieces for bridges, track support, stuff like that. I suppose.

That sounds like a great hike! I haven't found anything cool myself yet, but I love hearing about what others come across. Those channel iron pieces sound interesting. Maybe it was part of an old support or bracket?
