The Safety Valve Journal was a popular steam-era magazine, with the oldest known issue from 1890. In 1895, it was taken over by Frederick E. Saward, who also published 'The Coal Trade Journal', which he started in 1869. He sold books and charts about coal and even bundled a free Coal Trade subscription with Safety Valve, which cost $1 a year. The articles and artwork were some of the best and gave a great look into that time. After Saward passed in 1917, his widow and brothers ended up in court fighting over his estate. Worth reading.

Never realized The Safety Valve Journal had such deep ties to the coal industry through Saward, bundling subscriptions like that was ahead of its time, honestly, the legal fight after his death just adds more intrigue.
